Overlooked Relationships: Relationships of Art and Literature after 1950

Doç. Dr. Seval Şahin (MSGSÜ, Department of Turkish Language and Literature) / Dr. İnci Aydın Çolak (Kalfayan School)

The fact that depiction in painting and in the literary genre of the novel started simultaneously in Turkey, has led artists and authors producing works in both of these art forms to nurture similar concerns and to follow similar pursuits for a number of years. The flourishing friendships between authors and artists during the Tanzimat era also encouraged them to pursue means of collaboration. In this seminar, starting from the Early Republic period, the parallelisms between painting and novel will be discussed.
