18th Akbank Short Film Festival’s Winners are announced!
The results of the 18th Akbank Short Film Festival, to which 2,081 short films from 68 countries applied, were announced on Thursday, March 31 at 19.00 on Akbank Sanat's Instagram and Youtube accounts.
Festival competitions this year consisted of National Competition Category, International Competition Category, Young Talents Competition Category and Akbank Short Film Forum Script Competition Section.
After the evaluation of the pre-selection jury, 14 films from the "National Competition Festival Shorts Section" and 14 films from the "International Competition Shorts from the World Section" have been chosen to compete for the "Best Film Award".
For the first time this year, 13 films were determined as finalists in the "Young Talents" competition created for directors under the age of 20, aimed to gather young people's interest in short films within the festival and to encourage productions in this field. The main jury members of the "Young Talents" competition, actress Özge Gürel; poet, publisher Dündar Hızal and director Ahu Öztürk selected Baturay Tunçat’s film Sunshine as the Best Film. Yunus Emre Akkuş’s film Silence and İlayda İşeri’s documentary The Fountain recieved mentions from the jury.
The main jury members of the National Competition Festival Shorts consisted of actress Büşra Develi, director Nisan Dağ, actor Okan Bayülgen, cinematographer Cevahir Şahin and Akbank Art Manager Derya Bigalı. The "Best Short Film" award in the National Competition was for I Gotta Look Good for the Apocalypse, directed by Ayçe Kartal, while the productions that received honorable mentions in this section were Stiletto by Can Merdan Doğan and Plastic Dream by Merve Bozcu.
The international competition jury of the festival consisted of director Jacqueline Lentzou, producer Nicolás Celis, documentary director Matjaž Ivanišin, producer Anna Maria Aslanoğlu and Akbank Art Manager Derya Bigalı. In the International Competition section, Adrian Moyse Dullin won the "Best Short Film" award for his film The Right Words, while the productions that were honored with special mention in this section were Olha Zhurba's Dad's Sneakers and director Hugo Covarrubias' Bestia.
From among the 692 applicant projects, 8 scripts were chosen as finalists for Akbank Short Film Forum Scriptwriting Competition. Competition jury members were writer, scriptwriter Ayfer Tunç, director Selman Nacar and producer Bulut Reyhanoğlu. As a result of the evaluations, İlayda İşeri's Oyunbozan project received the "Best Screenplay" award, while Miray Palaz's script titled Nizam received honorable mention.
