Galleries and Exhibitions in the Istanbul Art Scene from the 80’s to our days

About the Seminar: In the framework of the seminar series’ Curating Contemporary Art’; in order to fully understand the evolution of art from the 80’s to our days in the Istanbul art scene, it is of utmost importance to be informed about the history of galleries in Istanbul. To shed light upon the latter, Haldun Dostoğlu, one of the founding partners of Gallery Nev, a very prestigious gallery in Istanbul, will do a presentation on “Galleries and Exhibitions in the Istanbul Art Scene from the 80’s to our days.” Gallery Nev was founded 32 years ago, thus not only witnessing but also shaping a very important part of this evolution. The presentation will offer not only a chronological but also a critical study of the substantial changes.
About Haldun Dostoğlu: Born in 1951, Ankara, Haldun Dostoğlu graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at Middle Eastern Technical University, Ankara in 1976. He co-founded Galeri Nev in 1984 and later Galeri Nev İstanbul in 1987. He has been coordinating the exhibitions at Galeri Nev İstanbul since 1987. Dostoğlu organized retrospective exhibitions of Erol Akyavaş, Nejad Devrim and Alev Ebüziyya Siesbye and Mehmet Güleryüz and also curated the “Günyüzü: Çağa Collection” at Proje 4L, Istanbul in 2002 and “Fahrelnissa & Nejad: Two Generations Across The Rainbow” show at Istanbul Modern in 2006. Haldun Dostoğlu has edited more than hundred publications of Galeri Nev Istanbul and has consultant for many private collections of establishments. From 1987 to 2019, Dostoğlu organized more than 250 exhibitions at Galeri Nev Istanbul.
