Barış Arslan “Zenith”
Barış Arslan, born in Istanbul, began playing classical guitar at the age of 11. After working on a classical repertoire for a while, he pursued studies in music theory. During this time, he enrolled in law school while continuing to play jazz with different groups and perform at various clubs and festivals. At the age of 25, he met American guitarist Dave Allen and had the opportunity to study with him for two years. He focused on incorporating different rhythmic approaches into his playing, particularly in the area of improvisation, which is a fundamental element of jazz music. Throughout his career, Barış Arslan has shared the stage with musicians such as Will Brahm and Tom Ollendorff. Most recently, in 2024, he released his album Zenith that features his own compositions, in collaboration with Efe Oğur, Apostolos Sideris, and Tamer Temel. Barış Arslan and his orchestra will play the songs from Zenith, as part of their 34th Akbank Jazz Festival performance at Nardis Jazz Club on October 3.
