In the 5th interview of "100 Year Beuys” series entitled “Beuys and Shamanism”, Prof. Dr. Marcus Graf talks to Asst. Prof. Dr. Şevket Cem Onat. The talk is focused on the relationship of Shamanism and Beuys, his art philosophy and his relationship with shamanism through the materials and images he prefers to use in his art practice.
The German artist Joseph Beuys has fundamentally influenced art after WW2. His revolutionary notion of creativity and participation as well as his combination of poetics and politics for creating a humanist society has influenced generations of artists after him. In 100 Years Beuys, Akbank Sanat celebrates the artist’s 100st birthday by organizing numerous discussions with various experts from different fields under the moderation of Prof Dr. Marcus Graf. The talks, which will be screened on Akbank Sanat’s Youtube channel, aim at mediating the complex dimensions of an oeuvre that shifts between socio-culture and socio-politics, between spiritualism and science as well as between art production and art mediation.
