In this event which will be taking place during the pandemic of Corona Virus (COVID-19), named after its crown-like shape, Fatih Artvinli, Mehmet Ekinci and Ebru Yetişkin will be speaking about the Social and Psychological History of pandemics. Appearing in different geographies and for different reasons in different centuries and affecting the whole world, the relationship of pandemics with medicine and society will be discussed in a historical and artistic perspective.
Fatih Artvinli
He is a Faculty Member at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine, Medicine History and Ethics Department. Before his duty at Acıbadem University, he worked as a health officer during his education period. In the period where he was writing his doctorate thesis on Psychiatry History, he worked in Bakırköy Prof. Dr. Mazhar Osman Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Training and Research Hospital, Psychiatry Emergency and H-2 Women’s Service. In the meantime, he worked in projects enlightening the history of this institution. Alongside his many articles published in publications such as History of Psychiatry, History of Neurosciences, Ottoman Science Researches, he published two books: A Life Dedicated to Mirage: Osman Bölükbaşı (Kitap Publishing House, 2007), Insanity, Politics and Society: Toptaşı Hospital (Boğaziçi University Publishing House, 2013).
Mehmet Ekinci
He is a doctorate candidate at Cornell University Science and Technology Studies Department and continues his academic studies as a faculty member. He is translating and editing the published writings in Istanbulab Blog, performes conversations for the blog. He is managing the blog’s publication department with Aybike Alkan. In this doctorate thesis study, he focuses on political economy and sociology of information production specific to life sciences research laboratories.
Ebru Yetişkin
Ebru Yetişkin is giving classes at Istanbul Technical University on sociology, contemporary art and science-technology communication. She continues her independent research studies with seminar series such as Science, Technology and Society Talks (2018-), Contemporary Art // An Unknown (2019-2020) and Contagious Bodies: Network Politics in The Age of Data-Oriented Worlds (2015-2016) along with curation of exhibitions as Waves (2015), Code Unknown] (2014) and Cacophony.
