Brad Mehldau Trio
One of the most lyrical and intimate voices of contemporary jazz piano, Brad Mehldau has charted a unique path where jazz traditions merge with unconventional extremes since the late 1980s. He is first and foremost an improviser, who greatly cherishes the surprise that can occur from a spontaneous musical idea that is expressed directly, in real time. But he also has a deep fascination for the formal architecture of music, and it informs everything he plays. The New York Times calls Mehldau “the most influential jazz pianist of the last 20 years” and he has collaborated with musicians from different schools and periods such as Joshua Redman, Pat Metheny, Ambrose Akinmusire, Kurt Elling, Mark Guiliana. Akbank Jazz Festival will host Brad Mehldau with his trio featuring Felix Moseholm on bass and Jorge Rossi on drums at Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall on October 12.
