Women were considered a symbol of modernization in Turkey, and in the writing of art history this “symbol” was mostly ignored. The principal framework of this seminar will be formed around the questions of whether women continue to be a symbol in contemporary art; whether women have undertaken founding missions; whether there was a shift in paradigms concerning the way women were perceived during the time after the modern era, and the possible reflections of these in art.
