Charenee Wade Presents: The Gil Scott – Heron Project
Charenee Wade was introduced to the jazz world through her performances at ‘Dianne Reeves Young Artist Workshop’ at Carnegie Hall, and the Thelonious Monk International Vocal Competition. With the timbre of her voice resembling Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan, she participated in many projects, backed by masters such as Wynton Marsalis and Christian McBride. Wade, interpreted soul & jazz poet-musician Gil Scott-Heron's revolutionary heritage in her album ‘Offering’. The album has a long line-up with Marcus Miller on bass clarinet and Christian McBride on vocals. This was the first time that a female artist covered the songs of Heron who was the voice of the African American community with his songs and his political stance, making a major impact on the music world.
