Philosophy Seminars - Digital Technologies, Critique and Society
"The Current State of Digital Technologies: 'New Wave Artificial Intelligence', Promises and Problems"
Speaker: Güven Güzeldere
Moderator: Emre Şan
The "New Wave of Artificial Intelligence" has made progress at a speed that most of us could not have predicted ten years ago, and even those working in the field twenty years ago would not have anticipated. This is largely due to the rapid development and proliferation of digital computer-based technologies. So, what does this new paradigm promise for the future, and what issues does it inherently carry? I believe that while models like ChatGPT offer us unprecedentedly powerful tools, we cannot afford to turn our backs on these developments. However, these models also bring significant issues, such as reliability, interpretability, and transparency, that are intrinsically problematic. In this presentation, I will explore how we might strike a balance between these two poles.
