Born in 1996, in İstanbul, Kadıköy, Evrencan Gündüz fell for blues music after watching “Ray”, a biopic about Ray Charles. Later on, he improved his music knowledge listening to names like Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Albert Collins, Freddie King and James Brown. At 14, he learnt playing classical guitar on his own. At 15, his father Asım Can Gündüz -one of the top guitar virtuosi of Turkey- bought him an electric guitar, and so he took his first step into professional music life. At 16, he was playing in streets and on ferries that cross the Bosphorus Strait. In the same year, he founded his first band, T-Blues, with his friends. Soon, they started to get on stage in concerts and festivals. In Rock’n Purple, he received “the best soloist”, “the best rock band” and “the best instrumental perfomance” awards, the lattest given for a kemenche arrangement he made for the Beatles song “Don’t Let Me Down”. Evrencan Gündüz, who has won critical acclaim with his full house, acoustic solo gigs since a year, will now be on stage for you, at Akbank Jazz Festival with his quintet.
