Gabi Hartmann grew up in a house in Paris filled with French chansons and pop-rock songs from around the world. Her passion for Brazilian music brought her to Rio, where she lived for two years, after which she studied ethnomusicology in London. She discovered legendary musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Nat King Cole through covers by Amy Winehouse. These musicians and her interest in music from different cultures have shaped her eclectic compositions and vocal performances. Hartmann’s French, Portuguese, English, and Arabic songs cover diverse genres ranging from fado to modern jazz. In early 2023, she released her self-titled debut album, produced by Jesse Harris and recorded between Paris and New York. All 14 songs on this album reflect the diversity embedded in her musical DNA. Hartmann has opened for musicians like Melody Gardot and Jamie Cullum over the last few years. She will join the 33rd Akbank Jazz Festival at Babylon on September 30th.
