Güçlü Başar Gülle, who has revealed his knowledge about Turkish music, jazz and classical western music in his various projects, has managed to attract the attention of art authorities and music lovers with his innovative and distinctive music language. Bringing a completely different look to jazz harmony with the medieval visual art technique Reverse Perspective, the artist offers a solution from the world of sound to the dead ends of modern life.
The artist who completed the Berklee Music School, which has a privileged place in the music world, has been invited to the projects carried out by the BBC Symphony and the famous record label ECM and to the important schools such as University of Toronto, Berklee Valencia and many important music festivals in America, Canada, Germany, England and France.
Apostolos Sideris was born in Athens, Greece in 1978, where he had his first musical training, studying classical flute. By the age of 15, he had switched to the electric bass and was soon drawn to jazz music. In 1997, he moved to Boston to further his studies at Berklee College of Music, where he had the fortune to study the upright bass with a number of prominent bassists and educators such as Ron Mahdi and John Lockwood.Upon completing his bachelor and after a year of freelancing around the Boston area, he moved to New York to study with bass virtuoso John Patitucci at the City College of New York.Since his move to New York, Apostolos has worked with a number of leading jazz artists such as, guitarists Lionel Loueke and Rez Abbasi, saxophonist Seamus Blake and pianist Leo Genovese to name a few.
At the same time, he became increasingly interested in various types of world music, learning more and more about the musical traditions of North Africa and the eastern Mediterranean. Most notably, he has performed with Lebanese composer Ziad Rahbani, with Greek ECM artist Savina Yannatou, as well as with Armenian-American oudist and composer Ara Dinkjian among others.
Since 2013 he has chosen Istanbul as his home base, where he had the opportunity to co-lead 'Mesel', a world music group focusing on the various musical styles of Anatolia and the middle East in general. He is currently focusing on his latest project named ‘Σummation’, showcasing his world-jazz sensibility, through both his compositions and improvisational approach. The group's first album was released in France in 2019 by Spanish label Freshsound Newtalent.
