Incorporating his experience in Turkish music, jazz and classical Western music as well as visual arts and philosophy into his musical projects, Güç Başar Gülle will perform his latest project “Synthetic Vision” at the 31st Akbank Jazz Festival. Taking the makam modality of Ottoman – Turkish music as a starting point and inspired by the multi-dimensional aesthetics of this music, the project brings this multi-dimensional character into the space and time of jazz. Transforming instruments such as oud and kemancha into tools that question our linear view of music, “Synthetic Vision” updates the relationship between Turkish music and jazz without attributing an absolute value to historical facts, and by focusing on the “moment”.
