Kanahi Yamashita was born in 1997 in Nagasaki, Japan. Since her early childhood, as a member of “Kazuhito Yamashita Family Quintet”, she has performed in Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Czech, Hungary, USA, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan and appeared in the Cordova Guitar Festival in 2007 and 2011. Their CD called “Kasane” was released in 2007. At the age of 13 Kanahi gave her solo debut in Torino playing Dvorak’s Largo from The New World Symphony.
As part of a guitar duo with her father Kazuhito, she was invited to the major international festivals such as Benicasim (Spain), Uppsala (Sweden) and Santo Tirso (Portugal) where they performed Rimsky Korsakov’s Scheherazade. In 2015 she performed the Double Concerto for two guitars and orchestra by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco together with her father in Estonia, under the baton of Alexander Prior with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to performing the works of renowned composers, she also composes and plays her own pieces and one of her works, “Variation and Fantasia on ’Star of the County Down’”, was published in 2015. She has also earned praise for her singing on the 2008 CD “Little Henny-Penny” and also in a 2012 performance on a boat in Tsushima island in Japan as well as in Paris in 2014. Kanahi has lived in Berlin since 2015 and regularly gives solo recitals. She studies at the Berlin University of the Arts. In the year 2016 she won a scholarship from the Yamaha Music Foundation Japan. In 2017 she was one of the semifinalists in 66th ARD international Music Competition in Munich.
