Japa is a Sanskrit word used to mean the repetition of a frequency, the echoing of a repetitive sound, its propagation and evolution. The sound of the band, which interprets modern and sometimes mainstream jazz works as trios in its repertoire and, also includes its own compositions, evolves with organic and electronic elements.
Çağla Karaali:
She was born on January 13, 2003 in Istanbul. From 2013 on, she went to Sibel Köse jazz vocal studio from time to time and became interested in jazz. She participated in the Pulawy Jazz Workshop in Poland in 2016. In 2018, she completed the jazz certificate program within the Bahçeşehir University Jazz Academy and started drumming with Cem Aksel. She had the opportunity to work with Baki Duyarlar, Şevket Akıncı, Rendy Esen and Sibel Köse. She was the youngest participant among the groups that won the İKSV Young Jazz Competition in 2019. She was the youngest winner of the Nardis Young Jazz Vocal Competition in 2020 and qualified to participate to Riga Jazz Stage Competition. She is currently actively continuing her musical life with vocals and drums.
Efe Artun Yüksel:
He was born in 1992 in Izmir. He studied classical guitar during his secondary and high school years. He completed his university education between 2010-2015 in Dokuz Eylül University GSF Music Education Department with Ender Bilge on classical guitar. He participated in workshops of Pepe Romero, Marco Socias, Rene İzquierdo, Pavel Steidl, Los Angeles Guitar Quartet's guitarist Scott Tennant, John Dearman, Matthew Greif at home and abroad. In this process; he had the opportunity to work with Ömür Gidel, Skip Gailes, Adam Larrabee. In the summer of 2012, he joined Emre Kartari’s jazz camp. In 2016, he started his graduate program in Bahçeşehir University Jazz Certificate program and still continues his education there. During this period, he had the opportunity to work with Baki Duyarlar, Şevket Akıncı, Sibel Köse, Başak Yavuz, Alper Maral and Şenova Ülker. He continues his professional music career which he started at the age of 20 with his own trio and other projects.
Oğulcan Akça:
Born in 1994 in Ankara, Oğulcan Akça studied bass guitar and jazz music with Emre Topak after his electric guitar training in high school. He then joined Bahçeşehir University Jazz Certificate program and worked with names such as Kağan Yıldız, Şevket Akıncı, Sibel Köse and Baki Duyarlar. He is currently studying at Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Art and Design, Bass Guitar Department.
