Istanbul Silent Cinema Days has been paying homage to silent era comedy filmmakers since its first edition. This year again, the programme brings genius comedians into spotlight. A hilarious comedy by the talented duo Laurel and Hardy Battle of Century (1921) starts with a boxing competition, which leads up to an epic battle of pies, which earned a special place in cinema history. It is claimed that about 3,000 cakes were used to film this scene, while Guinness book of records claims about 10,000 cakes were actually involved. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the pie-throwing battle of the century… The second film in the comedy programme is a 1921 silent short by Harold Lloyd: Never Weaken. In the film, the protagonist gets disillusioned after wrongfully hearing that his lover will not marry him. He tries to commit suicide, climbing to impossible heights in modern city architecture, but each time ending up a bit too lucky. This heart-throbbing comedy by Lloyd will definitely take your breath away. The comedy programme also includes a surprise title!
