Seminar: Overview of Important Examples in the Curatorial History
Speaker: Melih Görgün
About the seminar: In this seminar, artist, curator and academician T. Melih Görgün will discuss and examine important examples of curating history. Based on these examples, we will scrutinize the practices of developing new projects. T. Melih Görgün, who is the founder and the director of the Sinopale Biennial, directed and curated many local and international projects. During the seminar, he will give examples from his experiences.
About the speaker: Artist and curator, academician. Born in 1962, Sinop. He lives and works in Istanbul and Sinop. Independent curator, artist, working on cultural studies, performances and city and art. He works as a curator on research based and participative references interdisciplinary projects. Professor at the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in Istanbul. He is the founder and artistic director of the International Sinop Biennial Sinopale, founding member of European Cultural Association, one of the founders of the art portal europist.net. and Sinop Sustainable Development Association.
Works as the co-curator of Siemens Art (Istanbul) since 2007. Advisory Board Member of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture. He is a coordinator of the international cooperation project “City and Art” which is realized with several art academies including art academies from Turkey and Europe. He curated over many exhibitions in Turkey and abroad, including Sinopale 5 and Sinopale 1, Werkleitz Biennale, Asian Art Biennale.
He has been exhibited his art works in different countries and cities as well as Zürich, Venice, München, Vienna, Dhakka, Amsterdam, many others.
