Kurt Elling
Kurt Elling, who has been nominated for a Grammy Award 16 times and won twice in his 25-year career, is recognized by many prestigious publications as one of the most original jazz vocalists of all time. It is worth remembering that The Guardian has even described him as “a kind of Sinatra with superpowers”. The Chicago-based musician is known for his unique contemporary beat writing and has expanded the parameters and vocabulary of the jazz vocal. Having worked with jazz greats like Branford Marsalis, Danilo Perez, Fred Hersch, Charlie Hunter and Stefon Harris, Elling's discography includes well-established labels such as Blue Note, Concord Jazz and Okeh. One of the most beautiful comments ever made on his legacy is by the American poet Robert Pinsky: “In Kurt Elling’s art, the voice of jazz gives new spiritual presence to the ancient, sweet and powerful bond between poetry and music.” With his breathtaking baritone voice and modern classics, Kurt Elling will perform at Cemal Reşit Rey on October 7.
