Featuring the mesmerising star Pola Negri in the lead, Mania isa tale of love. A beautiful worker at a tobacco factory, Mania falls in lovewith composer Hans. Selected to be featured in the advertisement poster of thecigarette manufactured with the tobacco processed at the factory, Mania firstencounters Hans at the poster art studio. In the meantime, an art patron,Morelli, also sets eyes on Mania. To declare his love, Hans composes an operato be staged at the National Opera in Berlin. But Morelli is determined toblock this performance. Mania tries to persuade Morelli to abandon his effortsto prevent the opera, and she eventually gives in to his demands. At the end,the opera is staged but a sorrowful end looms over the lovers.
Mania was considered to be lost for many years. It was rediscovered in2006 and widely screened in many cities following its 4K restoration. Payingutmost attention to restore the original colours, which stand out withextraordinary shades of purple and yellow, the restoration is considered to beone of the most successful in its field.
