We’ll talk about modern poetry during our conversations hosted by Akbank Sanat on September 14-15 and 21-22. What are some of the theoretical issues surrounding modern poetry and what forms and techniques did poetry have to develop to address the issues? Every event will focus on particular poems that we’ll attempt to analyze with the participants. You can also think about it as a workshop. What makes a poem a poem? How does poetry change and evolve in relation to the necessities and demands of modernity? How does it engage with daily life and the ordinary? What do we really mean by “image,” a term we often encounter in poetry criticism? What kinds of tendencies has the attention to “image” produced in our poetic tradition? And is this attention justified?
Every event will feature a different scholar or poet who will help us develop new perspectives.
