Musician and composer Mulatu Astatke is one of music's living legends. He is considered to be the creator of the Ethio-Jazz genre. Gilles Peterson has said that "Mulatu's music is the ultimate form to reach." Mulatu is the first African student of Berklee College of Music. He combines traditional Ethiopian folk music with classic and Latin jazz. Mulatu has composed music for Jim Jarmusch and last year he received an honorary doctor of music degree from the Berklee College of Music.
