A special performance of the 33rd Akbank Jazz Festival will feature three unique musicians: Yarkın Tuncer, who has made it his mission to further the technically and musically pioneering upright bass style of Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen; producer, arranger, studio musician, and composer of numerable film soundtracks Cem Tuncer; and academic and guitarist Neşet Ruacan, a man who has worked with musicians across generations both during and after his 26-year career at the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation as conductor for the Istanbul Light Music and Jazz Orchestra. Tuncer, Tuncer, and Ruacan had this to say about their upcoming performance: “We have played music together countless times, but this time we have decided to put together a trio. Two guitars and a double bass can fill a broad range of music frequencies. Usually, people would expect compositions to be specially planned in advance for a trio like this. However, we are people who have dedicated years of their lives to jazz and thus can do this planning as we play. Therefore, with both original compositions and well-known jazz standards, this performance will be the first of its kind and unrepeatable. We are grateful that you share our excitement.” The trio will be performing at the Yeldeğirmeni Art Center on September 27.
