“The Roles of Museums in the Writing of Art History”
Doç. Dr. Ayşe Köksal (Özyeğin University)
The significant roles that museums play in the writing of art history and the establishment of the canon are indisputable. As the museums in Turkey have failed to seize this role, they were unable to even establish their presence in the history of art. In this seminar, the museums of painting and sculpture in Turkey, their problems, and the consequences of their absence in the writing of art history will be discussed.
