Sofia Casprini “Dynamic Floorwork” Workshop (17 November)
Instructor: Sofia Casprini
Time: 11:00-13:00
The workshop proposes the exploration of a mix of dance practices which are based on the principles of dynamic floorworktechnique and improvisation.
A guided improvisation will spur students to investigate the articulation and the malleability of their bodies through the use of imagery and sound. Creative tasks will aim at warming up the body joints and muscles achieving a "juicy" and smooth quality of movement. The release of the weight will play an important role, especially in the contact impro section of the practice.
Students will actively follow a physical and emotional journey passing through the immersive experience of different imaginary landscapes. The practice will be sustained by music which will keep the environment playful and light.
In terms of dynamic floorwork, students will be able to explore the principles of the technique, which gives dynamism, functionality and speed a main role and which consists on specific exercises which allow students to approach the floor smoothly and to investigate the relation between their bodies and floor. Physical tasks which will involve actions such as press, pull and push in and out of the floor will be experimented and will aim at sustaining the fluidity of the body action through space. Students will be spurred to take risks, challenge themselves and measure themselves with their own readiness and confidence.
This is a complete training: for the body, for the mind and for the spirit. It aims at giving the body a very physical impact so to achieve as many tools as possible to improve body awareness, raise body’s resistance and nourish the physical and mental elasticity of the dancer.
