Ella Fitzgerald: Louis Louis put down that horn / Don’t you ever get tired?
Louis Armstrong: Well, deep down in my heart, baby, I don’t
(from the song “Would You Like to Take a Walk”)
Over the course of their over half-century careers, jazz legends Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald left behind numerous unforgettable recordings and performances. During the height of these two doyens’ careers, they released Ella and Louis (1956) and Ella and Louis Again (1957), two albums which have become masterpieces of the jazz duet canon. The 33rd Akbank Jazz Festival will host its first Ella and Louis tribute concert. Turkish jazz’s master trumpet player Şenova Ülker and Cemre Necefbaş, a jazz vocalist known for her impressive improvisations, will honor the memories of Armstrong and Fitzgerald with a repertoire of swinging songs from their joint recordings. The duo will be accompanied by Önder Focan, Aydın Balpınar, and Mert Can Bilgin on October 4th at Istanbul’s famous jazz club Nardis.
Cemre Necefbaş: Vocals
Şenova Ülker: Trumpet, vocals
Önder Focan: Guitar
Aydın Balpınar: Bass
