A prominent figure of the movement known as “German Idealism” in the history of philosophy, J.G. Fichte brought a new definition to the concept of “consciousness” with his fundamental texts published in the 1790s, and besides the criticisms he has received during and after his time, he had followers in the field of literature as well as philosophy, and has established a system that would be analysed from various angles by almost every philosopher, especially in the nineteenth century. In this seminar, we will be discussing the “conscious subject” conceived by Fichte, and its “reflection”, from the vantage point of different disciplines of philosophy, and drawing some conclusions.
