Ohio born jazz singer Vanessa Rubin, who uses her experience-laden mature voice beyond aesthetic presentation and story telling, as a true instrument, today is deemed an ambasssodor of pure jazz in the world. Supported by her teachers, Barry Harris and Frank Foster in her early days in New York, she was lucky to have her very first stints with the likes of Kenny Barron, Pharoah Sanders and Lionel Hampton. Later on, names like Monty Alexander, Cecil Bridgewater, Kenny Burrell, Frank Foster, Billy Higgins, Etta Jones and Toots Thielemans were present in her recordings and bandstands. Rubin, who recently completed global tours with Herbie Hancock, the Woody Herman Orchestra and the Jazz Crusaders, is indeed, not only a singer, but also a songwriter, producer, arranger, musical mentor and a revered educator engaged by institutions like the Monk Institute as a music student adjudicator.
