New Media, Law and Ethics

Ad. M. Gökhan Ahi (IT Lawyer, Academician of Bilgi University)
Ad. Şebnem Ahi (Cofounder of Ahi Law Office)

The sharing of individuals and institutions in New Media, where everyone can be a publisher, has also begun to transform our lives. This transformation, on the one hand, brings social and commercial opportunities, on the other hand leads to various problems such as privacy violations, cyber fraud, hate speech and erodes both legal and ethical normal. Where and how does law and ethics evolve in this context? How does New Media differentiate its time-space boundary from the traditional media in the plane of law? In the past, we were able to distinguish the law through national or social boundaries. However, independent media relations on New Media platforms complicate legal solutions. Is it possible to legally resolve this situation, which is increasingly complicated by the fact that individuals, servers, commercial services and the company providing the service are in different countries (and sometimes even in the areas of cloud computing)? As the new media is transformed into a living space from a communication medium, more and more expertise is needed in law. Formerly, it could be collected under the title of Information Law, now there is a lot of expertise such as Robot Law, Artificial Intelligence Law, Digital Money Law, E-sports and Digital Play Law. Why is such a separation necessary? It is claimed that intelligent objectivity and robotization on New Media will lead to unemployment by incorporating some professions carried out by people. Does it law among these professions? So will a future that will include billions of intelligent objects, a more just and ethical order, or will it be the apocalypse of mankind?
