Prizma Expanded: Poetics of Perception’ Exhibition, taking place from May 11th to July 29th at Akbank Sanat, showcases collaborative works by three directors and three film professionals which represent three different generations from Turkish cinema. The exhibition will display site-specific and experience-based cinematic works of art created by three different groups of filmmakers. This is also Prizma’s first project, an independent art initiative founded by the artist and curator Lara Kamhi to thoroughly explore the concept of “Expanded Cinema” under the name of Prizma Expanded. Prizma investigates expanded cinematic artforms informed by new ways of thinking suggested by communication networks such as social media, immersive environments and In Real Life Storytelling. “While the didactic dimension of social media, with its orders, notifications, and warnings, shuts our minds off from even the slightest void, it also radically affects our approach to the cinematic experience. We search for an ultimate state of transcendence in the midst of this information muddle, and we keep on looking for an experiential space to which we can comfortably entrust our weary, bewildered and exhausted minds,” states curator Lara Kamhi regarding the impact of the communication networks on the cinematic experience.

About the Curator Lara Kamhi

Born in 1987 in Istanbul, Lara Kamhi studied Theatrical Studies at New Sorbonne University Paris-III and Film Studies with a concentration in French New Wave at American University of Paris. She then pursued her education at Istanbul Bilgi University’s Film and Television department with a minor in Visual Communication Design and graduated with a high honors degree in 2011. She took jazz courses at Berklee College of Music, advanced sound engineering courses at The London Music School, and analogue filmmaking courses at no.w.here. In 2013, she completed her MFA degree at Slade School of Fine Art (UCL) with Merit and the Julian Sullivan Award for achievement in Fine Art Media. The artist-curator co-founded and managed Prizmaspace, an independent art initiative, where she curated a series of nine exhibitions focusing on site-specific, immersive and cinematic artworks. In 2017, her first feature length screenplay was pre-selected at Sundance Scriptwriter's Lab, UTAH/USA. During the same year, she began writing for the art and psychology magazines, PsikeSinema and Psikeart, and continues to contribute to both magazines as part-time visual content and cover editor. Kamhi’s works have been displayed at national and international galleries, museums, festivals and public spaces since 2009. Throughout her career, Kamhi has created numerous experimental videos and films, and worked as visual, stage and lighting designer for plays, concerts and events while also working as an internationally awarded music video director.
