The new generation’s jazz scene showcases an impressive tendency towards eclectic bonds between different genres and a melting pot of various visions. We are highlighting some of the new generation’s young talents, who win prestigious awards, go on world tours and release albums that reach impressive sale numbers.
SHABAKA HUTCHINGS

Shabaka Hutchings is following the footsteps of Sun Ra with great confidence and a fresh approach. Last year, he won the ‘‘UK Jazz Act of the Year’’ award from Jazz FM Awards. We should also note that he is one of the curators of Le Guess Who? Festival 2018, which will take place this July in UItrecht.
CHRISTIAN SCOTT aTUNDE ADJUAH

Nephew of the visionary musician, Donald Harrison Jr., Christian Scott has already made a great career with a glorious discography at 35 years of age. Breaking jazz’s both written and unwritten rules with his innovative approach, Scott has been creating wonders with the super-group R+R=Now, which was formed under Robert Glasper’s leadership.
YISSY GARCIA
(YISSY & Bandancha, Roy Hargrove, Dave Matthews, Esperanza Spalding and more)
With his style that mixes Latin Jazz, R&B, funk and Afro-Cuban; Yissy Garcia is one of the most talented Caribbean musicians from the contemporary British jazz scene. Shining with both his drumming skills as well as mind expanding compositions, Yissy freely travels between genres with his orchestra Bandancha, carries his percussionist and orchestra leader father’s legacy to new horizons.
MOSES BOYD
(Moses Boyd, Lonnie Liston Smith, Little Simz, Floating Points and more)
Long before Moses Bond won the ‘‘Best Jazz Act’’ at the 2015 MOBO Awards, he was already named UK’s new jazz genius, just at the beginning of his career. Since then, Boyd has proved the impressive reach of his musical vision through collaborations with numerous musicians from various disciplines and backgrounds. He is also the founder and owner of the record label Exodus Records.
MARQUIS HILL
(Marquis Hill, Sirens of Sound, Benny Golson, Ronald Carter Big Band and more)
American trumpeter and composer Marquis Hill is one of the most special figures from Chicago jazz scene. During his early 20’s, right after he finished his ‘‘jazz pedagogy’’ masters degree at the De Paul University, Hill started to perform on stage with some of the most important musicians of the city. He has been performing his open-minded and eclectically inspired compositions with his band, formed by Christian McBride, Justin Thomas, Makaya McCraven and Joshua Ramos. We are sure Hill is one of those musicians whose name we will be hearing more and more in the upcoming years.
