“Reading the 1980s: Relationships between Art and Politics”
Doç.Dr. Esra Aliçavuşoğlu (Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts)
The 1980s could be characterized as the years in which the production of art in Turkey has experienced a number of ruptures. Turkey had begun these years with a military coup, and following the coup d'état the country was integrated into neo-liberal economic policies. These years, which probably saw the most daring works of art in terms of artistic language, were also the years when the writing of art history was reassessed alongside the formation of a new market. This seminar aims to present a comprehensive discussion of the production of art and the writing of art history in the 1980s.
