In “Starting Into Space” conceptual artist and performer Gül Kozacıoğlu will talk about the evolution of her art projects, from inspiration to idea, to installation and performance. To illustrate and clarify the process, the talk will travel visually and aurally from sketches to the finalized work of STARDUST, her 2017 interactive installation at ST HELENE’S CHAPEL and it’s documentation. The talk will cover the process from a spark of inspiration, it’s evolution into a concept, and the observation of space into ‘patterns’, delineating into sketches, in the realization of the final visual and aural components of the installation and it’s documentation, with afterthoughts on audience participation.

Gül Kozacıoğlu was born in 1976 in Ankara, Turkey, raised in Copenhagen, Denmark. She has worked between Istanbul, Copenhagen and New York, within visual and aural media, utilizing photography, video, technology, music and poetry in her installations and performances. Her work is imbued with a wish to step us beyond notions of space and time and thus applies a visually semi-fantastic language to her expression, even of socially pertinent subjects as crises, censorship or war-induced migration. She is currently continuing her practice from her studio in Bodrum. She holds a BA degree in Philosophy from Bosphorus University, and later studied Philosophy of Design at Metu University in Turkey.
