Seminar: A Legal Overview on Contemporary Art and Curatorship Activity
Speaker: Sadife Karataş Kural
About the Seminar: In this seminar, protection area of intellectual rights, the principle rights of the artwork owner, scrutinization the legal dimension of the works performed in the context of curatorship this framework; relationship between artist-collecionist or artist-curator-art institutes, artwork loans, exhibition organization, legal and contractual dimensions of intellectual property rights will be commentated.
About the Speaker: She is graduated from Faculty of Law, İstanbul University in 1990. Started to work on intellectual property law in 1996 with professional associations. Actively involved in the drafting process in Turkish Parliamentary Sub-Commission during the 2001 amendments to the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works. She has presented papers at various intellectual property seminars and forums; published articles; gave applied and theoretical courses at several universities as a guest lecturer. Participated in the writing and presentation of the chapter on legal regulations in the work conducted by civil society organizations for “National Cultural Policy Assessment Report” of the Council of Europe. She carries out works on various areas of intellectual property including cultural and art activities, design, trademark, publishing, production, museum studies, collecting; serves as legal counsel and attorney to non-governmental organizations operating in the field of culture and art; and continues to give lectures on industrial design law as a part-time faculty member at the Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Işık University.
