Games for Change and XR Technologies

With hardware advancements such as XR devices like Quest and Vision Pro and improvements in software technologies such as game engines and artificial intelligence, games have become one of the most powerful communication tools of our time. S. Zafer Masalcı and Oytun Kal will discuss the effects of visual and auditory experiences produced using games and gaming technologies, such as creating social impact, healing, knowledge transfer, and improving cognitive and physical skills. They will also share various XR applications for participants to experience firsthand.
This workshop is going to be the first event of Türkiye chapter of Games for Change which is an international organization working on games for social impact and awareness.
About Speakers:
Oytun Kal has worked in Germany and Turkey's film, television, animation, visual effects, and gaming industries. He serves as the Executive Producer at BUG Lab TEKMER, offering pre-incubation and incubation programs for gaming startups and companies. Additionally, he teaches XR technologies, virtual production, and motion capture at BUG Lab, the Game Laboratory of Bahçeşehir University.
Server Zafer Masalcı holds a master's degree in architecture focusing on game design from Bahçeşehir University. His master's thesis titled "A Guided Study for Designing Virtual Reality Games" provides comprehensive insights into virtual reality and serves as a guiding document for designing virtual reality games. With extensive industry experience in architecture, architectural visualization, animation, and virtual reality experience design, Masalcı currently works as a lecturer at Bahçeşehir University. In this role, he teaches various topics such as game development using the Unreal Engine blueprint system, level design, lighting design for games, virtual reality game development, 3D modeling, and game animation. His research interests include virtual reality, level design, game development, and 3D modeling.
