“From Freud’s Imago to Lacan’s Imaginary in the Mirror”
In the seminar, words in different languages that stand for “image” will be recalled (ikon, imago, bild), and the journey of the image in contemporary thought since the eighteenth century will be explored. Sartre’s interpretation of the subject–based onHusserl–as well as Bachelard, Freud, Lacan, and Heidegger’s understanding of imagination and the critiques directed at them will be discussed.
Nami Başer (Prof. PhD.) was born in 1950 in Mudanya. Having graduated from Lycéede Galatasaray, he went abroad to France to study philosophy and literature at the universities of Strasbourg and Paris VIII. After returning home he worked at Lycée de Galatasaray, Bursa Military High School, Uludağ University, Galatasaray University, and Okan University, respectively, teaching courses onthe subjects of French, literature, philosophy, psychoanalysis, anthropology, cinema, and theatre. The first two of his five volume Evsizlik Defterleri (Journalsof Homelessness) were published by Periferi Publications in 2008. His book Lacan–publishedas part of Say Publications’ series of Architects of Thought–attracted considerable attention, and its second edition was released in 2012. He has translated a number of works by authors such as Maurice Blanchot, Miguel Abensour, GeorgesJean, Emmanuel Levinas, Jean Genet, Pascal Gillot, Gaston Bachelard, andElisabeth Roudinesco into Turkish.
