The SineFilozofi Journal that brings together individuals deliberating on and producing works with a consideration for the philosophy of the art of cinema, organizes the first Symposium of Cinema and Philosophy this year.
The Symposium that will be held at Akbank Sanat during 23-25 November 2018, will aim to establish relationships between philosophy, and documentary and fiction films through concepts such as truth, memory, ethics, aesthetics, existence, time, and space, as well as including papers on movement-image, time-image, becoming, major and minor narratives that would allow further elaboration. The Symposium also contains presentations that propose practices of thought concerning the relationships between cinema and the fields of videophilosophy, literature, contemporary art, and architecture.
The three-day Symposium will also feature sessions with acclaimed directors and filmmakers who have established intellectual themes on cinema and philosophy in their films. Tayfun Pirselimoğlu, Ümit Ünal, Belmin Söylemez, Emre Yeksan, Ceylan Özgün Özçelik, and Ercan Kesal will attend as speakers of the panels where the general problems of cinema, the relationship between cinema and philosophy, and the philosophy of cinema will be discussed. Attending the event as a member of the audience is free of charge, and the Symposium of Cinema and Philosophy invites all lovers of cinema to Akbank Sanat in November.
