“Jazz and Cinema: Unexpected Turns”
Hakan Bıçakcı
Jazz is one of the most powerful elements in creating tension in cinema. Sudden rhythm changes, unexpected melodic turns, uncanny atmospheres… From noir films to horror cinema, the way jazz shapes storytelling has always been fascinating.
This month, our Jazz Listening Club welcomes Hakan Bıçakcı, a national jury member of the 21st Akbank Short Film Festival, as our guest. Together, we will explore how jazz is used as a tension-building tool in cinema, its impact on both the audience and characters, and the role of rhythm in creating a sense of fear. Accompanied by some of the most unforgettable soundtracks in film history, we will discover how jazz becomes an instrument of emotional manipulation in storytelling.
