Based in Berlin, the 35-year-old mathematician, pianist and composer Benedikt Jahnel founded his trio during his 2-year stay in New York. Then, his double bassist Antonio Miguel, had just finished his studies with John Patitucci. And his drummer Owen Howard was an even older friend. He had been Jahnel’s professor during his Universität der Künste Berlin years. The debut album of the trio was Modular Concepts (2008), a summary of the impressions from these 2 years in New York. Their second album Equilibrium was released from the famous Munich-based label ECM, in 2012. It was produced by Manfred Eicher, the founder of ECM, personally. Now to celebrate their 10th anniversary, the trio recorded their third album The Invariant. Do you want to learn what this trio will offer you in this festival gig? A very unique rhythmic arithmetic on keys, drums flowing like a melody and a double bass mediating between the classical influences and the contemporay concepts of groove.
