Deniz Erkan Sancak Dance Workshop

Akbank Sanat Dance Atelier hosts choreographer and dancer Deniz Erkan Sancak, who continues his career in New York City.
In the two-day workshop, where movement is processed with rhythm, space and time, in essence aiming to intersect the imagination and bodies of the participants, the movement techniques in the instructor's literature will blend and meet with the participants. It is aimed to create a space where we will talk about and share the combinations.
About Deniz Erkan Sancak
Deniz Erkan Sancak started his career in Latin/Standard dances and soon became a member of the national team. With the scholarships he received, he continued his education at the Dance Conservatory Purchase College SUNY in New York. At the school, he studied techniques such as Cunningham, Graham, Limon, Counter, Gaga, Alexander, Plates, Contract improvisation, Composition and Classical ballet. During his training he performed as a soloist in cult postmodern works such as Martha Graham's "Appellation spring" & "Diversions of Angle", Merce Cunningham's "Interscape" & "Senerio", Anna Sokolow's "Dreams". He has also worked and performed with contemporary choreographers such as Jennele Figgins, Bettijane Sills, Ana Maria Lucacia, Eve Chan and many others. In the last year of his training, he trajinated at Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, where he worked on the choreographies of Igal Peri and Yue Yin. Deniz graduated with honors in May 2022. She has participated in various workshops, including those run by Rambert Company (dir. Benoit Swan Pouffer), Art of Marseille (dir. William Forsythe) and Yin Yue Dance Company. He has danced with Ballet Nouveau Colorado, Christopher Williams Dances, Douglas Dun+Dancers, Liz Gerring Dance and Merce Cunningham Trust. Deniz joined the Stephen Petronio Company as an ensemble member in the summer of 2023. Currently he continues to project with several companies in New York City, Deniz believes that time in the studio is the most precious time and that there is something waiting to be discovered in the body.
* The course will be conducted in English. Classes open to advanced professional dancers are free of charge and participation is limited to 20 people. Regular attendance is recommended for 2 classes on 2 different days, but it will also be possible to attend a single class. Workshop registrations will be taken on separate event pages for the days on which the classes will take place. To participate in the classes, you can create your registration by using the "Register" button on the event page of the day you will attend and receive your free class invitation. Participants who want to participate in both days must register separately for 2 events. Registrations will open 5 days before the first event date (01.02.2024, at 14:00) and the "Register" button will become visible then.
