About the Seminar: This seminar focuses on the Word “aesthetics” and its relation to “art”. it also necessarily includes the concept of “subject” in explaining such a relationship. Consequently, conversations on “aesthetics follow a historical path, taking into account how“ art and “subject are defined in changing periods, and identify the connections and breaking points between the different definitions put forward in each period.
Part I
Here will be talked about the meaning of the word “Aesthetics” and its relation to “the subject”. The Aesthetics concept put forth by Kant in the 18th Century will be the departing point and we will see how aesthetics was matched with “art” in the modern era.
Part II
With the latter, the philosophies that modern era aesthetics was based upon will be put forth and we will look at how these definitions undergo changes and how they were taken at hand from the Greek Philosophy to the 18th century Kant.
Part III
After the 18. Century, we will investigate how this definition of “aesthetics” mark overlaps and ruptures with “subject” and “art”. The seminar will continue with interactive interpretations and discussions.
NOTE:
These seminars will be based on studied texts and not on “personal views.” The discussions will also be based on with reference to our readings but there will be some room for personal interpretations.
