Unlike his projects such as Wax Poetic, Love Trio, Nublu Orchestra and I Led 3 Lives, İlhan Erşahin’s Istanbul Sessions was formed as a session band that he can play with, in 2015. The band translates the musician’s relationship with this city most freshly. Since their 2010 debut, the band blends eastern and western influences in their original sound, blurring the lines between genres. Their fifth album “Bir Zamanlar Şimdi”, released in 2020, takes the listener on a journey of space and time beyond history with tracks named after Anatolian and Mesopotamian civilizations. The concert at the 31st Akbank Jazz Festival will be one of the first live performances of this album. İlhan Erşahin’s İstanbul Sessions will be accompanied by Arto Tunçboyacıyan, who has put his stamp on music history with his body of work.
