Istanbul Youth Jazz Orchestra is established under the joint sponsorship of Akbank, one of the oldest corporate supporters of jazz in Turkey and Bahçeşehir University, which approach jazz music from the perspective of academic values within the scope of an educational institution. The orchestra is led by pianist, composer and educator Baki Duyarlar and aims at opening new doors for the improvement of jazz music in Turkey, creating opportunities for young talents and introducing the original compositions of Turkish composers to the jazz audience. The orchestra is formed as a big band, one of the main types of musical ensembles associated with jazz, and consists of 17 musicians whose ages range between 19 and 25. The first concert of the Istanbul Youth Jazz Orchestra will be on October 28, Wednesday, at the Caddebostan Culture Center as part of the 25th Akbank Jazz Festival.
