Composer, pianist, songwriter, vocalist, and educator Selen Gülün is bringing her “Kadınlar Matinesi” (Women's Matinee) project to the 31st Akbank Jazz Festival, at the night to be held in memory of Mehmet Uluğ, who passed away in 2013. Selen Gülün came up with the idea for “Kadınlar Matinesi” in 2011 when she was invited by the Donne in Musica Foundation to present a selection of the latest works of female musicians from Turkey, to be performed with Italian musicians at Rome’s Donne in Jazz festival. The project, which has matured over the years, was released as an album with the same name in 2017. Aiming to increase the visibility of female songwriters and composers who write, play, record, and release their own music out of the mainstream whilst maintaining artistic forms in Turkey, “Kadınlar Matinesi” has hosted 33 female composers and songwriters so far. On this special night at the Akbank Jazz Festival, Selen Gülün and her companions on stage Kamucan Yalçın, Ezgi Daloğlu, Ceyda Köybaşıoğlu and Monika Bulanda, will be accompanied by Çağıl Kaya, Jülide Özçelik and Esra Kayıkçı.
