Jazz in Fashion
Jazz evolved underground during a period when class differences, race and gender inequalities were disturbingly accepted in society. Under these conditions - from Billie Holiday to Ella Fitzgerald, and from Louis Armb to Chet Baker - many jazz legends became prominent both with their music and appearance. They are known not only for their stylish and cool outfits on stage, but also for their more egalitarian symbols of class and gender that they have created with a new aesthetics style through this African-American music genre, while also giving reformist social messages. In this panel that will be moderated by fashion writer Barış Çakmakçı, guests will attend a short but delightful excursion in jazz history with examples from not only music but also from cinema, literature and fashion magazines.
