Standard A La Turc was formed with the idea to take local popular songs as jazz standards, just like the other jazz musicians around the world. The band covers the memorable pop, folk, Turkish classical music and arabesque songs like “Uzun İnce Bir Yoldayım, Yiğidim Aslanım, Lal” within the boundaries of jazz. With key jazz musicians from Turkey as members, such as Önder Focan, Batuhan Şallıel, Kağan Yıldız and Ferit Odman, Standard A La Turc, recorded their first album in 2001. The arrangements of the band, which has attended several local and international festivals, have been received with praise. Paying importance to “the style, rather than the song itself”, Standard A La Turc always offers surprises for its audience during concerts.
