Stefano Battaglia
Born in Milano, Stefano Battaglia is a reputable figure in the circles of classical music, owing to his large repertoire of baroque and modern music. He performed as a solo pianist at festivals held in Italy and Europe. Stefano began to appear in the jazz scene in the late 80’s, and quickly stood out with his sublime technique and elegant execution, thanks to his classical music foundation, landing him the “The Best New Talent Award” by Musica Jazz magazine. Apart from the Italian jazz musicians, he shared a stage with the likes of Lee Konitz, Kenny Wheeler, Dewey Redman, Tony Oxley, Barre Phillips, Steve Swallow, Enrico Rava and many others throughout his career. As a highly productive musician, Stefano has released more than 100 records as a solo pianist and as a bandleader, many of which had award-winning success. He was signed to the famous record company ECM in 2004. His double CD album, “RE:Pasolini”, dedicated to Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini, received a lot of praise. Attaching great importance to innovative musical endeavours, Stefano continues to share his studies on composing and creativity with young people at the Siena Jazz Workshop.
