"Talk with Tiago Correia and Antonio Parra"
Speakers: Antonio Parra, Tiago Correia, Ferdi Çetin, Yeşim Özsoy
As part of the New Text New Theatre Project by GalataPerform, which has been ongoing since 2006, this year, a collaborative playwrighting project titled Writing on New Realities in partnership with Portugal’s A Turma Theatre will take place. Supported by the Portuguese Camões Institute, the project has been continuing since New Text Festival 12 in 2023. Playwrights from both the theatres working on the title of the project have written four different plays. Readings of two of these plays will be staged at Akbank Sanat on Saturday, November 23rd, at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, as part of the IO Theatre Festival program. Experience by Antonio Parra will be directed by Okan Urun, while Fume by Tiago Correia will be directed by Yeşim Özsoy as a staged reading. Additionally, at 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 23rd, a discussion on “New Realities” will take place with all the playwrights participating in the project.
In the second phase of the project, readings of two plays translated into Portuguese will take place in Porto: "Aksak Delirium" by GalataPerform’s founder, artistic director, writer, and director Yeşim Özsoy, and "I Fell Asleep Thinking About the Origins of Private Property in Front of the Television, Woke Up to the Sound of My Father" by dramaturg, translator, and writer Ferdi Çetin. In December, the readings will be held at Porto's National Theater (Teatro Nacional São João) hosted by A Turma Theater.
Following the play readings held at Akbank Sanat, a talk on "New Realities" will take place at 7.00 pm with all the writers participating in the project. The talk will primarily focus on the works of the Portuguese team. The impact of writing about contemporary realities on the creative process, as well as reflections on this theme, will be explored. The discussion will also cover the exchange process between the two countries and theatres.
