Swedish guitarist Ulf Wakenius was introduced to the jazz world as one of the members of the last Oscar Peterson Quartet. Blending his incredible rhythmic feel with a lyrical touch, Wakenius in early 1980s, rocked the whole Scandivania with his guitar duo Guitars Unlimited, he founded with Peter Almqvist. Throughout his music life, he was the comrade of names like Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Ray Brown and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. His USA-chart-sweeping duo albums with Ray Brown have taken their place among the golden records in world’s jazz discography. Today, Wakenius is a true master revered by names like Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin, John Scofield and Mike Stern. Recently having been on world tour with the Korean jazz singer Youn Sun Nah, Wakeniuw comes to Akbank Jazz Festival with his son Eric Wakenius, who is, just like him, a virtuoso. They will be here, putting their picks and duo album Father and Son, released last April under the ACT label, in their pockets.
