28th Akbank Jazz Festival will be hosting Islandman, a project that received a special award from Montreaux Jazz Festival a few months ago. Started as Tolga Böyük’s - who we know from the band Farfara- solo project, Islandman transformed into a trio shortly after and have managed to adapt their eclectic production process to the stage perfectly since then. Islandman’s Akbank performance, which promises a night of rhythmical games, helical melodies and a non-stop dance extravaganza, will feature special guests such as VEYasin, Murat Ertel, Barış Demirel and Ekin Eti.
Here are three videos that showcase Islandman’s legendary live performances for those who would like to get ready for the upcoming Akbank Jazz Festival concert!
Karavan Sessions
Produced by Lamba Film, Karavan Sessions create live video recordings of their guest musicians with breathtaking landscapes in the background. Lara Di Lara, Melike Şahin, Yank and Ata Kam have been some of the series’ guests with a few songs but Karavan Sessions chose to release a 40-minute single-take live performance as their Islandman episode.
Montreaux Jazz Festival
Islandman was among the prestigious Montreaux Jazz Festival’s line-up this year and received the Shure Montreux Jazz Band Award. The trio’s special concert at the festival’s Montreaux Jazz Talent Award section has been uploaded to YouTube. Derrick Hodge, Bugge Wesseltoft, Aloe Blacc and Richard Bona were some of the names at the jury who gave Islandman the award.
Sound Picnic
Formed in Bilgi University to create impressive audio-visual experiences, Sound Picnic has definitely met this goal with their video for Islandman’s live performance of ‘‘Night Wind’’. In one of the series’ most special episodes, the trio performs the song with Sadık Avcı and Ece Bozkurt’s visual design and their magical sound is magnified through beautiful visual textures.
